What are some of the domain transfer regulations by ICANN?

There are multiple reasons why a domain transfer may fail. This article explains several reasons why your transfer may be unsuccessful and what you can do to fix it.

Invalid Auth/EPP code
The EPP code is case and character sensitive. If you see an error stating, “The EPP authorization code was invalid,” copy and paste the code again, making sure to remove any additional spaces added before or after the code. If that doesn’t work, it’s possible the code has expired. Please contact current registrar to obtain correct key.

60-Day Transfer Lock Period
This is the most common domain transfer failure. For domain to be locked it means the domain name was registered or transferred within the last 60 days. You must wait at least 60 days from registration before transferring your domain or you must therefore contact your current Registrar is you wish to disable it. However, some providers will allow you to disable/ unlock domain through a control panel.

Domain contacts did not approve transfer of domain
After checkout, we also will initiate the transfer process. At this stage our registrar partner, eNom, will sends a Transfer Approval email to the domain’s Admin email address listed under Whois. The email contains the verification link that you will need to either authorize or reject the transfer in your account.

Domain contacts did not respond to verification email

If contact does not responded to Transfer Approval email within seven (7) days, it will be canceled - domain contacts did not response to verification e-mails.

Transfer already initiated for this domain
You may not start the transfer process for a domain if there is already a pending transfer order in our system. Check the pending transfers in Dashboard section of your account. If there is a pending transfer currently in your Namecheap account, you must wait until that transfer is complete before starting the transfer process again. Otherwise, you may contact Namecheap support and request to cancel the current transfer.

Domain cannot be transferred within same registrar
If your domain transfer failed with this status, the domain may already be registered with Solelyweb and may currently reside in another Solelyweb account, in which case it cannot be involved in the transfer process. Click here on how to change domain ownership

The current registrar has rejected transfer
This can occur if the domain does not meet the requirements/conditions of your current Registrar or those specified in ICANN's Policy on Transfer of Registrations Between Registrars. Before placing a new transfer order, we suggest you contact your current Registrar to find out the reason your transfer request was denied. Common examples of reasons for transfer denial: 60-Day Transfer Lock Period, Evidence of fraud, UDRP (Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution) action, Court order by a court of competent jurisdiction, Reasonable dispute over the identity of the Registered Name Holder or Administrative Contact, Non-payment for previous registration period (including credit card charge-backs), Explicit objection to the transfer by the authorized Transfer Contact, Do

Domain is currently not registered
This means that the domain name is not a registered domain name, therefore is not active or transferable. This status will be returned for transfer attempts made for domains in Redemption Period or Pending Delete status.

Domain is currently undergoing transfer by another Registrar
Once a domain is in "pending transfer" status, duplicate transfer requests for the domain will be canceled with this status message.

Privacy is Enabled
Domain transfer that fails because of this is because privacy is still enabled, your contact information is being blocked from the soon to be registrar, so the domain transfer emails they're sending are going to a Privacy Protection inbox instead, which cannot be accessed. To rectify this first, contact your current registrar to disable WHOIS privacy on your domain, some providers will allow you to disable this domain through a control panel.

Domain Expiring in Less than Seven Days
Domain transfers fail whenever there's a status change, such as when the registration expires. So you can initiate a domain transfer if it's close to expiring or has already expired, but it'll fail if the domain expires during the process.

Domain IPS TAG issue
Error related to IPS TAG occur when transferring .UK domain name from one Registrar to another. It means that the transfer was submitted but the domain’s IPS Tag was not changed to ENOM by your losing registrar. To rectify this first, contact your current Registrar and request that they change the IPS TAG for the domain name to ENOM and then submit a transfer.

Please note: If the transfer is submitted prior to IPS TAG change, the transfer will be processed within 7 days of the IPS tag change.
If IPS TAG was changed with ENOM before transfer was placed, then the transfer will be processed and the domain should appear in your Solelyweb account within 24 hours of transfer submission.

Important:
It’s our policy that .UK domains are not renewed during transfer if the transfer occurs more than 90 days before expiration. If you have already submitted a payment within this timeframe, the amount will be refunded automatically to your Solelyweb account balance.

Domain Redemption
You can transfer an expired domain; but once a domain enters the redemption period, the status changes and transfers are prohibited. The domain registration needs to be renewed and restored out of redemption before the transfer is approved. Important: Avoid transferring your domain within 45 days of renewal, or you could lose that renewal year. Once a domain is renewed it enters the Auto-Renew Grace Period set by ICANN, during which the renewal is tentative. What does this mean for you? If you initiate a transfer during this time, you’ll lose the renewal year you paid for and a refund cannot be issued.
